SOUTH CAROLINA RIVER
This 100% authentic and unrepaired fossil angustidens shark tooth was sourced from a river in the state of South Carolina, USA. Here scuba divers brave limited visibility (sometimes absolutely ZERO visibility) to feel around the muddy bottoms by hand to recover these rare fossil shark teeth. Dangers faced in the recovery of these teeth include the terrible visibility, very strong river currents, unseen obstacles, boat traffic, sharks, stingrays, and alligators in some locations. The divers who collect these South Carolina fossil shark teeth are professional and many have decades of experience.
ABOUT THE ANGUSTIDENS SHARK AND FOSSILIZED ANGUSTIDENS SHARK TEETH
Carcharocles angustidens was the largest predatory shark to live during its time. This massive animal lived during the Oligocene epoch (approximately 23–34 million years ago) and is a direct ancestor of the world's largest shark — Carcharocles megalodon, forming an important part of the Megalodon lineage. The angustidens reached lengths of at least 40 feet (12 meters) which is more than double the length of the largest Great White Shark (but the overall mass of the angustidens would have been MUCH more!).
For the most part all that remains of this enormous shark are the fossilized angustidens teeth sought after by serious collectors. Fossil angustidens shark teeth are found in only a few isolated locations, making them perhaps the most uncommon of the Carcharocles teeth and far less frequently offered than fossil megalodon teeth. Fossil angustidens shark teeth are found in Oligocene fossil deposits worldwide, but this is an uncommon age to find deposits. As such, the vast majority of authentic angustidens shark teeth for sale come from the Oligocene Chandler Bridge Formation or Ashley Marl in South Carolina, USA. Teeth are found either in land sites or by scuba diving in rivers in the general area of Charleston–Beaufort, SC.
Factors in the value of fossilized angustidens shark teeth are numerous, but the most important factors in the value of angustidens teeth are the overall quality and preservation. Angustidens shark teeth found in perfect condition have razor-sharply serrated edges, a complete root, intact enamel, and a well-defined bourlette. To find a tooth of this quality after more than 30 million years is substantially rarer than finding one that has been exposed to water currents and suffered wear or damage. As a result, specimens found in near-pristine condition command a noticeably higher value than worn or damaged examples. Colors or different color patterns can also play an important factor in the value.
Fossilized angustidens shark teeth are a very unique gift item that are ALWAYS appreciated by the recipient as there's really nothing comparable to holding such a large piece of natural history in your hands. Whether you're buying for yourself or someone else, you literally can't go wrong with one of our 100% authentic fossil shark teeth, including rare fossil angustidens shark teeth sourced from trusted professional divers. Thank you so much for your interest and business!
