    OFFSHORE NORTH CAROLINA

This 100% authentic and unrepaired fossil EXTINCT MAKO Shark tooth was sourced from the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of North Carolina, USA. Here the teeth are found in depths of approximately 100–115 feet (30–35 meters) and are discovered by specially trained scuba divers. These divers face the dangers of decompression sickness if strict dive protocols are not followed. The divers who collect these fossils are professionals with decades of experience and we strongly do not recommend anyone attempting this without years of training and experience.

ABOUT THE EXTINCT MAKO AND FOSSILIZED EXTINCT MAKO TEETH

Isurus hastalis is the scientific name for the always impressive Extinct Mako. This magnificent predator is among the largest marine hunters in history — and, its broad teeth are prized by collectors all over the world. The Extinct Mako is the direct ancestor of the modern Great White which is found worldwide today. The Great White branched off from the Extinct Mako lineage approximately 4 million years ago, part of the fascinating evolutionary journey of ancient predatory species The teeth of the Extinct Mako and Great White are almost identical except the Extinct Mako does not have serrated cutting edges where the Great White does.

    VALUE AND COLLECTOR INSIGHT

The value of fossil Extinct Mako teeth depends on several factors — locality, size, condition, and rarity. Teeth over 2.5" are much rarer and command a premium, especially when found in perfect condition with razor-sharp cutting edges and complete enamel. Finding a flawless specimen after 4-5 million years is not common. These Extinct Mako teeth can be found in enormous sizes up to 3.5" in length however anything over 3" is considered a VERY rare find and will carry a huge value.

Coloration also plays a big role. While most fossil Extinct Mako teeth are gray, some display vibrant hues and are known to be some of the more colorful teeth in existence. Different colors and locations increase their collector appeal and investment value.
