Carcharocles megalodon was the largest shark in history and one of the world's largest predators in general. This massive animal lived during the Early Pliocene-Late Miocene epochs (approximately 3.5-8 million years ago) and its ancestors (Carcharocles chubutensis, angustidens, auriculatus, aksuaticus, and Otodus obliquus) date back to around 60 million years ago. This shark reached lengths of at least 60 feet (18 meters) with a weight of around 50 TONS. This is more than three times the length of the largest Great White Shark but with an overall mass 25 TIMES more than the Great White.
