Remarks - Discover rarity with this Fossil Whale Radius (limb bone) featuring visible shark bite Marks from prehistoric sharks.....probably even including a megalodon. 100% authentic and unrestored, from the world famous Bone Valley Formation in Polk County, Florida. Dating back 4–5 million years (Pliocene/Miocene), this specimen offers a powerful glimpse into a prehistoric encounter between predator and prey. A unique piece that tells a dramatic story from Earth’s ancient oceans.
We do see shark-bitten bone on a somewhat regular basis but getting a piece like this is a true rarity. The detail of the bites and the sheer number of bites tell a horrifying story of predation. While it's not 100% possible to tell exactly what shark species did this there are some clues. There is a line of bite marks near the top edge of the bone that are deep and laid out in a regular pattern. These deep bites strongly suggest the possibility of a small megalodon. The other bites just under the deepest ones are also aligned in a row are less deep but are definitely from a separate bite. Serration marks are visible in a couple of the bites and along the edge of the bone which also lead to the probability that the deeper bites could have been done by a megalodon. Bone Valley was known to be a nursery for megalodons and the shallower waters were favored by juvenile megalodons.
One of the best bite bones we've ever offered for sale.
